Advanced Real-Time Video Streaming for Defence & Border Protection
Protecting borders through live intelligence.
Deployment: Military Vehicle
Military vehicles can have CCTV cameras mounted for surveillance purpose however it’s not easy to benefit from such surveillance. The data is generally stored in the NVR within the vehicle and is only retrieved when the vehicle has access to a location where technical teams can take the backup, or an automated backup is initiated once in such a range.
OmniCompressor, deployed in a SmartNVR can change the overall process and provides the authorities with an option to stream the data in real-time. SmartNVR, comes pre-packaged with the OmniCompressor compression software. This compression means, the data is very light weight and can be streamed in real-time for better benefits of surveillance.
Deployment: Military Base
Surveillance is a genuine requirement everywhere and it becomes even more important in defense sector. A lot of defense operations rely heavily on the data collected through surveillance. Military bases usually have very strong security arrangements however even such arrangements are not sufficient and surveillance data is used both for analytics as well as policy making.
Usually, the decision makers, are not available at the military base and prefer receiving the information from locations to command and control center. The policy related decision is taken based on the information received and are then implemented accordingly.
The possibility of streaming the LIVE surveillance to command-and-control center can drastically change the way operations are carried out today. The real-time surveillance access at the central location can greatly boost the possibilities of having a centralized analytical analysis of the surveillance content thus enabling faster decision making. The data is much more reliable as it’s available at a single location and there is no human factor involved.
Deployment: Soldier Foot & Helmet
Soldiers, while in the battlefield capture invaluable information however that stays with them because of the lack of means to convey the same information. HF Radio and similar means are used to share such information, but it does not provide the complete picture. However, with the surveillance becoming very common these days, the soldiers get shoes and helmets with embedded surveillance cameras. These cameras can capture the video and record in the small NVR attached with it. Even in such scenarios, this information is usually not very productive as the data stays on the field and can only be analyzed later for some information. A big chunk of this information becomes redundant because of lack of its usefulness after the operation is over.
SmartNVR, deployed with the surveillance cameras can revolutionize the process as its helps not only compress the data to store more data but also enables the decision makers to transmit data in the real-time. The data transmitted in real-time changes the overall equation and all the data captured becomes much more useful. The data captured through these means can play a significant role in the combat strategy and better offensive and defensive decision making.
Deployment: Camera from UAS/UAV
Un-manned aerial vehicles (UAV) are the most important tool used by military these days. The UAVs are deployed for several different operations including the much important surveillance. The UAVs can accommodate multiple number of cameras, attached to an in-vehicle NVR and recording video for longer hours of flight. This data is then analyzed for various needs after the UAV is back on ground and data is retrieved into the centralized system.
Vortex Global provides the compression solution to change the process. With our compression, the data captured by the UAVs can be transmitted to ground in the real- time. This real-time surveillance can potentially change the overall surveillance approach and enables the military to plan their operations differently.
Deployment: HF radio
It’s an extremely daunting task to transmit video over HF radio as the available bandwidth is negligible to cater for the needs of video surveillance. A typical transmission bandwidth is about 3 kHz with the resulting throughput bit rate up to 12800 bps. This very low bit rate by itself imposes serious challenges for reliable real time multimedia communications. With the available bandwidth, HF can transmit 1 frame per 3 to 5 seconds which is not sufficient to run any kind of facial recognition or even the motion analytics using AI.
However, transmitting video over HF is a possibility with OmniCompressor. Our ability to compress the video by up to 95% ensures the provision of a reliable video surveillance for border areas. Our ability to compress and retain the quality means we can transmit up to 5 FPS video over the HF. Since OmniCompressor retains the quality, it’s possible to run analytics on top of the compressed feed. It’s pertinent to mention that several leading brands of AI have successfully run analytics on top of our compressed video with 100% results. These names include NEC, Vision Labs, Hitachi, IBM, Falcon Shield, and others.
